In detail

Everything Unfold can do

Look inside before you unpack

Browse an archive like a folder. Search it, sort it, and press Space to Quick Look any file without extracting anything. Need just one document out of a 4 GB archive? Drag it straight to Finder.

Pack it. Lock it. Split it.

Create ZIP, 7Z and TAR archives (plain, GZ, BZ2 or XZ) with the compression level you choose. Protect them with AES-256 — and in 7Z, Unfold encrypts the file names too, so a locked archive reveals nothing without the password. Too big to send? Split it into volumes sized for email, FAT32 drives or anything you like.

Rescue damaged archives

A download cut off at 98%? A ZIP that refuses to open? Test checks every file against the checksums stored in the archive. Repair salvages everything that still reads and rebuilds it into a clean, healthy ZIP.

Right there in Finder

Turn on the Finder extension and extract or compress from the right-click menu, without ever opening the app.

Made for the Mac

  • Native, fast and universal — Apple silicon and Intel
  • Extracts next to the archive, without overwriting what’s already there
  • Password-protected 7Z, RAR and ZIP open with a single prompt
  • Reads multi-volume archives (.001, .part1.rar)
  • No tracking — your files never leave your Mac

FAQ

Unfold questions

How do I open a RAR or 7Z file on a Mac?

Open it in Unfold. It reads ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ISO and more, including multi-volume archives (.001, .part1.rar) and password-protected ones.

Can I look inside an archive without extracting it?

Yes. Browse the archive like a folder, search and sort it, press Space to Quick Look any file, or drag a single file straight to Finder.

How do I password-protect an archive on a Mac?

Create a ZIP or 7Z archive in Unfold and set a password. It uses AES-256, and in 7Z the file names are encrypted too, so a locked archive reveals nothing without the password.

Can Unfold repair a damaged ZIP?

Test checks every file against the checksums stored in the archive. Repair salvages everything that still reads and rebuilds it into a clean, healthy ZIP.

Can I split a large archive into parts?

Yes. Split it into volumes sized for email, FAT32 drives or any size you like.

Does it add a right-click menu to Finder?

Yes. Turn on the Finder extension to get Extract Here, Extract to… and Compress in the right-click menu, without opening the app.
